Really interesting course (2.5km, 140m elevation), much like a fast WRC tarmac stage. 3rd and 4th gear sweeping corners over a very uneven surface; two lane road with no runoff and over half the course is blind corners. The region wants to expand tourism beyond the winter ski season and if this pre-event goes well, looks to be a solid event.
The organizers show extreme confidence.
The last public stage for Maou was 2016.

The J's s2000 has been maou since like 2011 right? Wonder when someone will build a faster machine for Gunsai....

It depends on surface conditions but in terms of check times at 25s and some change, the AMG GT R isn’t too far off from the 2016 spec Maou (+~0.6s) . I’m sure a lot of tuners from the Mine’s R34 era could be within a shot as well but it’s hard finding data outside of Japan. Some of the wilder cars like the HKS TRB04 might have a chance although a lot of those cars are optimized for larger circuits.
GTR data circa 2016.

Aah right, the Merc GT R got quite close!
I was hoping to see a GT86 with big power beat the S2000 but I guess thats not happening...

They get close on a bigger circuit. Circa 2016 data, Jun V8 brz is the closest I’ve found that could be reasonable on Gunsai. Anything faster than this car is big turbo + big aero, and then everything sort of blends into the HKS 86 which you wouldn’t dare run on a touge.
The time for Maou (set on RE-05D)
